Howled on Their Knees

Howled On Their Knees utilizes hand made mallet instruments and invented string instruments called The Turner Winch. This composition challenges the aesthetic how people experience music.>>

100 Mouths Full of Steel and Take

100 Mouths Full of Steel and Take incorporates tuned steel pipes and 2”x4”s along with more common percussion instruments. This work for percussion ensemble treats the ensemble as one central mind, playing several percussion instruments.>>

I Won't Let You Be Alone Down Here

I Won’t Let You Be Alone Down Here was Turner’s first composition using an instrument of his invention. The piece is an experimentation of new textures and timbres only possible with the creation of new instruments.>>

To Hammered Hearts with Drifting Dreams

To Hammered Hearts with Drifting Dreams was Turner’s first work incorporating hand tuned instruments. The work is an exploration of what can be accomplished using minimalist ideas while exploiting the complexities of un-refined metallic instruments.>>

Make It Better

Make It Better is an electro-acoustic composition that incorporates live processing with drum set. The piece explores the possibilities for a drum set to be played harmonically by the use of resonators.>>

Popsicle Rose

Popsicle Rose was formed by Ohio University students Eli Chambers (electric and upright bass), Turner Matthews (guitar), Jake Schlaerth (vibraphone), and Lauretta Werner (violin). The group has performed alongside The Happy Maladies, Elliot Cole, and the nobrow.music.collective. The group strives for the collision of contemporary, jazz, and popular music.

Great Big Tear was written in the summer of 2013. The piece focuses on a guitar ostinato which creates the formal structure of the work.

Check Minus was originally written by Jake Schlaerth for an ensemble of toy instruments. Popsicle Rose adapted the piece for their instrumentation and incorporates elements of improvisation. The work was Popsicle Rose's first song and helped define the artistic goals of the group.

Triangulus

Eli Chambers (percussion), Turner Matthews (guitar and electronics), and Jake Schlaerth (synthesizer and electronics) explored this side of Triangulus starting in the the Summer of 2014. This group has performed along side groups such as Radar Hill, and have presented at The Fairmont New Music Festival, The Electro-Acoustic Barn Dance, and The Athens Nuit Blanche Arts Festival. The group performs a wide variety of music: avant-garde, jazz, metal, and electronic (and all often at the same time).
